Windows 7 Beta download

If you’re trying to download Windows 7, here’s how you can bypass the unresponsive Microsoft page and download it directly:

  1. Open Internet Explorer (IE only, not Firefox, Opera, or Chrome), and open this link in a new window http://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/6/3/3/633118BD-6C3D-45A4-B985-F0FDFFE1B021/EN/7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD.iso
  2. An information box will appear asking you to install an ActiveX control. Approve the install - it’s a Download Manager that will allow you to pause and resume the Windows 7 download as needed.

At the end of the download (it’s 2.44 GB), you’ll have an .ISO file that you’ll need to burn to DVD or mount as a virtual DVD drive (with a tool like Daemon Tools). You don’t need to worry about getting a product key for now - it will work for 30 days without a product key. After the weekend mad dash is over, you should be able to get a product key more easily.

I will now resume less geeky postings.
