Now Flickr is hit by Yahoo layoffs
The Guardian reports that George Oates on the Flickr team has been laid off. George is one of the original developers for what is now Flickr and is probably most responsible for its fantastic UI + experience. I’ve also heard her give great talks on building online communities through shared interests which is what Flickr is all about. Her most recent position was manager of the Flickr Commons project that made the Library of Congress’ photo archives and other major photo archives available. Google’s LIFE archive probably wouldn’t have happened without Flickr Commons as the forerunner.
Seriously, Yahoo - is anyone awake over there? This is like Apple laying off Jonathan Ive.
