Martin Ansin’s poster for Taming Light, an “exhibition featuring painting, photography and illustration inspired by the films of Stanley Kubrick.”
Just wonderful.

Can you believe it’s already November?
I’m uploading my backlog of collages for Saturday Night Live hosts. This one is of James Franco from way back in Season 34, Episode 2.
You can see the other SNL portrait collages here.
Sweet heirloom quality “Lake Side Table” by American furniture builder BDDW.
White lacquer exterior, oxidized maple front drawer with hand carved ebony handles, and a black walnut interior.
Price: unlisted but probably one of those “if you have to ask…” amounts.
I wonder if I could retrofit an IKEA side table with a solid wood front drawer and wood veneer back panel for a similar effect.

I really enjoy how much fun the Royal Mail has with their new stamp issuances. Coming next year is a set of ten First Class stamps celebrating classic British album covers. The stamps are designed by Studio Dempsey.
Deciding what album covers to include was no easy task. Royal Mail tell us that they began the process by trawling through various existing polls of Greatest Album Covers. They also enlisted the help of editors from various leading UK music publications along with graphic designers and design writers who were asked to list the most significant album sleeve artwork used on records by British artists. The final selection of ten sleeves (which perhaps oddly doesn’t feature one of The Beatles’ album covers) will appear on a set of 10 stamps that will launch on January 7, 2010 - and the stamps will be uniquely shaped, as shown in these images, to accommodate a glimpse of a vinyl disc poking out of each record sleeve.
I don’t agree with all their choices for the “greatest” album covers but I do like the variety of new and old artists and genres.

The Margarido House is the first new home in the country to be certified LEED-H Platinum. It’s so energy efficient, it actually returns energy back to the grid. The house was built in a collaborative design of several architects, designers, developers, and local artisans.
Lots more info in the SF Chronicle article and slideshow.
As part of Burger King’s sponsorship of the Spanish soccer club Getafe for the 2009/2010 season, the soccer jerseys will be emblazoned with Burger King’s logo. But the jerserys have a secret: the King’s face is on the inside of the shirt for those dramatic goal-scoring moments when players flip their jerserys over their heads and run around.

Keeping things rolling along. Another SNL host collage - Ben Affleck. He hosted a little over a year ago.

What a gorgeous den.
It’s located in a Georgian house in Camden, London and is available for shoots.
2009 must be the year of slim script typefaces for me since I can’t seem to get enough of them. This one is Aphrodite Slim by Brazilian foundry Typesenses. I’m amazed at how quickly it’s jumped up to the #20 bestselling font spot at MyFonts.
By the way, if you are ever in need of font porn, check out the Hot New Fonts section at MyFonts.
Restoration Hardware is selling fully tricked out versions of the Worksman Cruiser bike. These are real tough bikes that were used to carry Good Humor bars back in the 1950s.
The optional bullet headlight is particularly awesome.
At $695, it’s only a little bit more than buying it direct from Worksman.
Hot cycling jersey by vintage typeface gods, House Industries. 100% merino wool.

I’m really digging 708 Cycling’s Alley Cat Road Jersey. Should be great for these ass-backwards chilly summer evenings we’ve been having in San Francisco.
The Alley Cat is made with a medium weight hemp, organic cotton fabric which gives this jersey an encredibly soft and stretchy feel. The fit of the jersey is tight with more of a 21st century cut. Hemp has inherent anti-microbial, anti-bacterial properties which adds to this fabrics appeal for active wear so don’t be scared. Rules were meant to be broken. It’s also handmade in St. Louis.
After seeing Alan Dye, Apple creative director, mention these Kate Spade “Larabee Dot” champagne flutes, I had to look them up. And I’ll admit, they do look pretty awesome.
$35 each.
